More About Chad
Chad was raised in this community that values hard work and integrity. Growing up in Douglas County, he learned firsthand the importance of public service and safety from his family and early mentors. This journey from a local hometown upbringing to the legal sector shaped his commitment to justice and his deep-seated desire to protect the community that gave him so much.

Local Roots
Chad's family moved to Alexandria in the 1970's when his father became the first orthopedic surgeon in Douglas County. That clinic is now Heartland Orthopedics at Alomere Health. He graduated from Jefferson Sr. High School in 1990 where he was the varsity hockey goalie and played with defenseman Jason Peterson (our new Sheriff in 2027).
Education
Prior to Chad's graduation from the University of St. Thomas in 1994, he studied at the University of London, England and thereafter was accepted to Hamline University School of Law. During that time, he clerked at the Minnesota Court of Appeals in St. Paul and took law school courses in Israel. As an attorney, he continues to teach law enforcement officers and lawyers seeking continuing educational credits.
Odd Facts
*Chad managed a hockey arena in Fort Collins, Colorado where he drove a Zamboni for CSU hockey games
*He also traveled with professional sports teams on road trips such as the 1995 Chicago Bulls, the Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche, and the Timberwolves as a travel coordinator based out of a company in Edina (he has a lot of stories).
*He decided to enter law school because he could not tolerate working in a cubicle in the IDS building in Minneapolis as a Mutual Funds Transfer Agent.
*In his first term as Douglas County Attorney, he wrote the language that became a statute known as "Laura's Law" and testified at the Capitol demanding that concealing a dead body should be a felony offense after a tragic incident occurred here.
Family
Life in Douglas County
Chad and Michele currently live in Alexandria. Michele is a doctorate-level Nurse Practitioner who specializes in radiology in St. Cloud. They have four adult children who they are immensely proud of.
